Dr. G. Wright Doyle | Founder & Director
Wright Doyle received the B.A. with Honors in Latin from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1966; the B.D. (M.Div.) with Honors from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 1969; and the Ph.D. in Classics from the University of North Carolina in 1975, with a dissertation on St. Augustine.
After joining OMF International in 1975, he and his wife Dori studied Mandarin Chinese from 1976 to 1978 in Taiwan. Wright taught New Testament, Greek, and Ethics at the China Evangelical Seminary, Taipei, from 1980 to 1988, eventually as Associate Professor.
Since 2004, he has taught courses in New Testament and Systematic Theology for China Evangelical Seminary in Taiwan and in North America, China Reformed Theological Seminary in Taipei, and the Chinese program of Reformed Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C.
Since 1989, the Doyles have lived in Charlottesville, where Wright serves as Director of China Institute, ministering to Chinese and preparing literature in English for publication in Chinese. He and his wife Dori have one daughter, who was born in Taiwan. She is married to a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina; they both now work for that seminary.
In addition to speaking in Chinese and Caucasian churches and at conferences, Wright also serves as a consultant to individuals and churches with a burden for ministry among Chinese. He has given lectures on Chinese Christianity at the Center for the Study of Christianity in China at Oxford, England; the British Library (the background of the photo above); King’s College, London; Yale University; and at the Southeastern Council for the Study of Religion.
Wright is also Director of Global China Center (www.globalchinacenter.org) and the editor of the Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity (www.bdcconline.net).
He supervised the translation by his students of an abridgment of the Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament into Chinese and made an abridgment of the Chinese edition of Carl Henry’s God, Revelation, & Authority.
Other works composed in English and published in Chinese include New Testament Reference Works; Confucius and Christ; The Switzerland of the New Testament (a devotional commentary on Ephesians); Hope Deferred: Studies in Christianity and American Society; The Lord’s Healing Words, and an autobiography.
English publications include China: Ancient Culture, Modern Society (with Dr. Peter Xiaoming Yu); The Lord’s Healing Words, Jesus: The Complete Man, Carl Henry: Theologian For All Seasons, as well as and numerous book reviews and articles, many of which can be found on this Web site.

Wright is assisted by his wife Dori, who mentors Chinese women, serves as hostess to a steady stream of guests, organizes and goes on trips to Asia, participates on the worship committee and a worship team in our church – all while keeping the house running and putting tasty, healthy meals on the table.
Robert Freund, MBA, CPA | Director of Finance and Administration
Rob’s duties as finance and administration director extend from guiding the bookkeeper and administrative assistant to keeping everyone informed of their financial status and everything in between. Since coming to China Institute in June 2009, he has rapidly adapted to the non-profit environment and supporting many ministries.
Rob has an M.B.A. from Duke University and is a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia and North Carolina.

Randall Chan ( 陳錦仁 ), M.Div., and Connie Chan ( 黃嘉恩 ), D.D.S. | Colleages
Randall Chan, M.Div., and Connie Chan, D.D.S., carry on a very creative ministry among Chinese scholars in England. Randall coaches a number of Chinese Christian leaders, and shares the Gospel with the families of the piano students whom Connie teaches each day. Both serve with the international ministry of their church, which draws a number of Chinese students.
Debbie Wong, M.A. | CI Partner
Debbie Wong is currently living in Crown Point, Indiana and works as a caregiver for the elderly. She is undergoing spiritual training at Living Stones church, learning and experiencing how the Gospel specifically impacts the Asian-American heart. In 2010, she spent 8 months in Taiwan studying Mandarin and plans to pursue a counseling track with a special focus on Asians, Asian Americans, and the elderly. Debbie has a B.A. in Classics, concentrating in Latin, from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and an M.A. in Clinical Counseling from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina.
